(Image courtesy) The F-22 and JSF programs promise superior aircraft. But the fact that we can build them and buy them doesn’t mean we have to. The Air Force’s technology for replacing them reflects Cold War habits.

What Do People Think Of The Ford F- Raptor?
The Air Force is right to highlight the threat to US aircraft from improved surface-to-air missile systems such as the Russian SA-10 (aka S-300). These systems have phased array radars that can track multiple targets simultaneously, and faster and longer-range interceptors than the systems they replace.
Other countries will get these SAMs even if they can’t afford to have so many top line fighters and get them to work well. Furthermore, against future enemies, the United States might not be able to take a beating from 15,000 feet in the first weeks of the war as it did in Allied operations.
This means that SAM threats can become much more dangerous. The practical implications of this discrepancy between projected budgets and projected resource needs are worrisome. Instead of developing a realistic plan to protect its top national security priorities, the Department of Defense continues to tighten its annual budget belts, rendering most, if not all, no matter how important, of these latest aircraft hardly obsolete.
They have better engines, radar, targeting systems, and navigation systems than when they were first developed in the 1970s. In the future, these fighters will also carry improved munitions, such as “sensor fusion weapons” that carry many submunitions that can automatically search for tanks and other armored vehicles.

The F-15 and F-16 also benefit from increasingly capable support assets such as JSTARS-equipped aircraft and unmanned reconnaissance aerial vehicles. The Freewing F-22 is an RC airplane replica of this revolutionary fighter. The F-22 has the lowest speeds and highest speeds of all Freewings, and is capable of maneuvers that most other EDFs can only dream of.
The 2022 Ford Raptor is offered as a crew cab with only a 5.5-foot cargo bed. Power comes from a 3.5-liter turbocharged V6 (450 horsepower, 510 lb-ft of torque) mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission. All-wheel drive with low-range and all-terrain drive modes is standard.
Raptor highlights include: The Air Force is reevaluating its F-22 program, but JSF’s plans also need to be reconsidered. In fact, this is a real looming budget problem for the Air Force. All 1,763 JSF currently slated for purchase at an estimated cost of approximately $65 million per aircraft are not required for service.
As Figure 4 shows, the Air Force has options to reduce budget requirements for multipurpose aircraft. For example, buy 500 JSFs to attack the most elusive and best protected ground targets. The remaining service needs of future multirole fighters can be met by purchasing the latest F-16s with air-to-air and air-to-surface munitions for $25 million each.

But the F-22 does little to mitigate that threat. We don’t have enough equipment to attack SAM towers. It carries laser-guided bombs, but not anti-radiation missiles that target enemy radar signals. Also, the Raptor is not designed to detect enemy SAMs.
A large aircraft with highly sensitive radar that flies a distance from the immediate combat zone, along with a cheap unmanned aerial vehicle that can fly low over enemy territory, serves this purpose. The F-22’s combat range is estimated at 530 miles (850 km or 1,600 nautical miles) with a supersonic cruise at 115 miles (185 km or 100 nautical miles) and a supersonic clean at 679 miles (1,093 km or 590 nautical miles).
Finally, the Air Force will have to redesign the Joint Strike Fighter (JSF) if its F-22 program is cancelled, which could improve its stealth, speed, maneuverability and other combat capabilities. However, according to the Navy, the combat effectiveness of the current JSF should significantly exceed the capabilities of the Russian Su-35, the multinational Eurofighter EF-2000 and the French Rafale, and the JSF will be supported by a capable F-15.
The 2022 Ford F-150 Raptor aims to conquer any surface, from rocky mountains to the sands of the vast desert. It can climb steep hills and traverse uneven terrain at high speed. It’s a trophy truck for the masses and makes few compromises to follow through on the mission.

It’s a tougher measurement. But it may be the best to consider. Here are the questions: What value can the US government get from investing in the F-22? Operation Desert Storm against Iraq in 1991 demonstrated the extent of US air supremacy.
The US-led multinational coalition lost a total of 38 fixed-wing aircraft in the Gulf War. Even more impressive, and most pertinent to the F-22 discussion, is the fact that only one Allied aircraft was air-dropped. The Air Force’s number one fighter, the F-15C, has flown 6,000 missions without losing a single battle.
Note: Roughly speaking, the radar cross-sectional scale corresponds to the square meters of a combat aircraft. However, when viewed from a certain angle, a non-stealth aircraft such as the F-15 may have a radar cross-section of 5 to 10 square metres.

Air Force officials have secured additional congressional approval for the F-22 Raptor. To date, about 90 Raptors have been delivered to the Air Force. The 478th Air Systems Wing at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base oversees the production, delivery and deployment of additional F-22s.

But these foreign fighters are also very expensive, and we neglect to acknowledge that few countries in the world outside the Western coalition system have the resources to buy so much. Naval intelligence predicts that Iran, Iraq, North Korea and China are unlikely to acquire more than a few dozen additional advanced fighters in the coming years.
In addition, all of these countries lag far behind the United States in pilot training, electronic jammers, Airborne Warning and Control (AWACS) aircraft, and many more intangible air warfare. The Chevrolet Silverado is basically the same as the GMC Sierra when it comes to engine, body style, and technology, but it has some controversial front-end styling that sets it apart from its more luxurious siblings.
The Silverado is competitive, but it falls short of the F-150’s more modern interior and available hybrid powertrain. Just because the last Raptor leaves the Marietta factory doesn’t mean the unit price is fixed at $377 million.
