Lamont-Doherty’s 40-second plot of the same data paints a more detailed picture: The seismic waves — blue for the South Tower, red for the North Tower — start out small, then build up as the buildings rumble to the ground.
Translation: no bomb. 7 World Trade Center was a 47-story skyscraper that collapsed hours after the Twin Towers fell. When WTC 7 collapsed, it appeared to many – including experts watching that day – that the building was brought down by controlled demolition.

EDPSciences [parent company] follows the most stringent peer review standards for journals of which EPN is not one. While it may indeed appear that WTC 7 was brought down by a controlled demolition, this explanation does not take into account what happened to it immediately after the attack and in the hours that followed.
A user said he lives in Australia shared the meme in a Facebook post on Dec. 9 in a public group with more than 85,000 members. At the time of writing, the post has been shared more than 190 times, attracting more than 430 comments and reactions.
In its July-August 2016 issue, the scientific journal Europhysics News (EPN) published an article by a group of scientists long involved in promoting 9/11 conspiracy theories. The article argued that the structural failure of the WTC buildings on 9/11 was not properly explained by the burning of jet fuel, and was instead better explained by a controlled demolition: While it is indeed true that the burning of jet fuel alone
cannot melt steel, a fire fueled by the burning of furniture, curtains, blinds, chairs, tables, computer equipment and enormous amounts of paper would burn hot enough to deform steel. NIST estimates that the fire in the towers reaches at least 1000 ° C in certain pockets.
Seismic Spikes

The Verdict

That includes Allyn E. Kilsheimer, CEO of KCE Structural Engineers PC in Washington. Kilsheimer was the man who found the black box recorder on Flight 77, and he held parts of the plane’s tail in his hands and observed the impact marks of the wing on the side of the building before a large part of the outer wall of the Pentagon collapsed.

A YouTube video from March 2018 that has been viewed more than 360,000 times claims in its title “see the fraud perpetrated by aircraft manufacturers and airlines charged for unused fuel.” Many people point to the lack of debris in official photos taken after the plane hit the side of the Pentagon.
When planes crash, they usually leave behind large amounts of debris. How did a large commercial airliner crash into a building and leave almost no debris behind? Second, the fire on the fifth floor lasted up to seven hours.

“There were no firefighters at WTC 7,” says Sunder. Investigators believe the fire was fueled by diesel fuel tanks many residents were using to power their emergency generators. Most of the tanks throughout the building were quite small, but the generator on the fifth floor was connected to a large tank in the basement through a pressure line.

The issue of false attribution aside, the article was written by four authors who promote 9/11 conspiracy theories and who are members of groups such as Architects & Engineers for 9/11 Truth and Scholars for 911 Truth.
The paper primarily targets the official findings of the NIST investigation into the World Trade Center disaster, which argued that fire adequately explained the collapse of all three WTC buildings. Fuel costs typically account for about 20 percent of an airline’s operating costs, with the proportion per flight varying greatly depending on distance. Romero, who agrees with the scientific conclusion that fire caused the collapse, requested a retraction from the paper.

The data shows that in the first quarter of 2019, $5.2 billion, or 16.5 percent, of the $31.5 billion in domestic operating expenses of the US airline was spent on fuel. In comparison, labor costs were $10.5 billion, or a third of the total.
But jet fuel wasn’t the only thing that burned, notes Forman Williams, an engineering professor at the University of California, San Diego and one of seven civil engineers and fire experts consulted by Popular Mechanics. He says that while jet fuel was the catalyst for the WTC fire, the resulting inferno was fueled by flammable materials inside the buildings, such as carpets, curtains, furniture and paper.
