Ukraine had a small air force of Soviet-spec aircraft at the start of the war, amounting to about 120 combat-capable aircraft, according to the IISS think tank. That number has declined as the war has progressed, although, remarkably, given the number of Russian aircraft and air defenses, experts say Ukraine maintains limited air capability.
