It is a new generation business aircraft. The US government has decided to launch retaliatory airstrikes against Hezbollah and their Syrian backers in Lebanon.
The strike was delayed, but finally went ahead on 4 December 1983 using a mix of carrier assets. It was poorly organized and ran into stiff Syrian air defenses. One A-7E was shot down with the pilot recovering safely, and another A-7E was so badly damaged that it had to be written off after landing.
A Grumman A-6E intruder was shot down, one crewman was killed, and another was held captive by the Syrians for a month. The airstrikes were just embarrassingly ineffective, and the whole US effort in Lebanon was ill-considered to begin with, which completely unraveled.
Redefining Performance
The US immediately cut their losses and retreated. The Navy’s bias is toward the TF30-powered Skyhawk, the “A4D-6.” Essentially a scooter on steroids, but other airlines have lobbied for competition, which has been well managed. The A-7A had a thicker fixed wing to provide more fuel storage, but like the Crusader the wings had a “dogtooth” configuration, with the wingtips hydraulically folded straight up. Instead of the Crusader’s P&W J57 turbojet, the A-7 had a non-burning P&W TF30-P-6 bypass jet with 50.47 kN (5,150 kgp / 11,350 lbf) thrust.

The 10s and 12s installations utilize our 6000 mah “convertible” battery to not only increase flight time, but also allow for a more versatile installation on our EDF jet aircraft.
